Crisis causes

To the editor:

One item I would like to hear more about in the present political campaign is how did the state get into such a budget mess in the first place? I can kind of understand that it’s a poison pill for any candidate to openly discuss tax issues, but why hasn’t the press talked about this? I do hope that if a large part of the present mess is due to the tax cut that was passed a year or two ago and if that tax cut favored big corporations and wealthy people, I hope the solution is not a new tax that mostly affects the middle and lower-income classes.
