Meet clarified

To the editor:

On Thursday, Oct. 10, Eudora High School hosted the 7th Annual Eudora Cross Country Invitational meet. It was held at Eudora High School and was monitored by Eudora faculty, staff and students. While this meet was covered by a Journal World reporter, the article was riddled with inaccuracies. The title of the article stated “Seabury sharp at home.” Bishop Seabury coaches were quoted as saying their kids were “pumped up by the home crowd.” The article stated that this was “Seabury’s first-ever home meet.”

While Bishop Seabury was one of 11 schools invited to compete in the Eudora meet, they provided no help, funds, or support to run off this meet, nor was this requested of them.

Eudora runners and the community deserve more accurate coverage than was exhibited in this article. Eudora performed well with Megan Ballock fifth, Tori Tunget 24th, and Jacqueline Pyle 25th.

The Eudora boys’ team put together their finest team effort of the season, snaring third-place team medals behind first place Gardner, and second place Wellsville. Seniors Andy Besser (eighth) and James Barr (10th) led the team. Freshman Sean Wiard (17th), sophomore Scot Mullis(25th) and senior Austin Roberts (27th) paced the Cards to a high team finish.

The meet was a true community effort with the police chief, teachers (from kindergarten to high school), principals from the two elementary schools, students, former runners and parents of runners all helping out.

In the future, please give your readers a more accurate account of what is happening in our community.
