Nuclear threat

To the editor:

If there would be a change of regimes in Pakistan by an “extreme Islamic regime,” would we launch a pre-emptive attack on a country that we know has nuclear capability? Pakistan is within easy reach of B-52 bombers from our base in Diego Garcia Island. Tempting?

More seriously, as we well know, a pre-emptive attack on Iraq would result in many casualties of American service personnel and innocent Iraqi civilians. It would be much better if we warned Saddam Hussein and the world that IF Iraq attacks any country with weapons of mass destruction, Iraq would be wiped off the map!

In the Soviet era, we had a mutually assured destruction policy, but this time it wouldn’t be mutual.
