To the editor:

The Ballard Center recently had a flag-raising ceremony at its school in North Lawrence. The Daughters of the American Revolution presented an American flag and educated the children about proper flag etiquette and the history of the 50 stars that are currently present on the flag. About 40 children attended the event.

One young boy asked if he could sing the national anthem to his fellow students, administrators and attendees. This young (4- or 5-year-old) boy removed his baseball cap and sang the national anthem in its entirety. A very touching moment to everyone! Special thanks to Dianne, Chip, teachers, children, parents and volunteers.

Please take time out of your day to stop by the Ballard Center and witness the daily miracles, rewards and success of the children that attend. Lawrence is very lucky to have such a wonderful organization.
