Historical salute

To the editor:

Sept. 29 was another fantastic day in historic Lecompton. The standing-room crowd at Constitution Hall witnessed a debate between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, better known as George Buss and Rich Sokup of Freeport, Ill. Having recently performed in Ford’s Theater in Washington, D.C. and on C-SPAN television, these men came to Kansas requesting to perform in Lecompton Constitution Hall where the nationally important Lecompton Constitution was written. The information presented was authentic, factual and informative.

This event, and the recent dedication of the Kansas State Historical Marker “Lecompton, Territorial Capital of Kansas” at the Topeka Service Center on the Kansas Turnpike, attended by more than 160 Lecompton enthusiastic promoters, only reinforces the importance of our historic city to the State of Kansas and to the United States of America.

As the Lecompton Song says “Hail to Lecompton, Hats Off to You!”
