Deep frying turkeys has become a trend during the holidays. The Lawrence Journal-World is seeking Lawrence area residents who would like to share their preparation tips or favorite recipes when it comes to deep frying turkeys.

Toll-free telephone services and Web sites offer a variety of specialist answers to cooking and food-safety questions during holiday preparation times. Here are some of them:

  • U.S. Department of Agriculture Meat and Poultry hot line – (800) 535-4555. Food safety specialists answer calls about meat and poultry preparation and cooking questions. Help is available on the Internet at www.fsis.usda.gov.
  • Foster Farms Turkey help line – (800) 255-7227. Turkey-cooking questions are answered and information given by operators 24 hours a day Saturday through Dec. 2. You also can find help at www.fosterfarms.com.
  • Reynolds Turkey Tips hot line – (800) 745-4000. A year-round 24-hour automated hot line, focusing on turkey topics through Dec. 31. Offers free brochure and recipes. Its Web site is www.reynoldskitchens.com.
