Parking shortage gripes dominate meeting

The lack of parking spots on game days was a major topic of debate Wednesday at Kansas University Parking Commission’s annual public hearing.

KU’s parking department reserves nearly 3,000 spots for basketball fans on home game nights.

“The parking department pays for that. Over the course of a year we receive $477,000 for them. That helps pay for that parking privilege,” said Allen Ford, parking commission chairman.

Some students said the parking department was placing athletics before student needs.

Donna Hultine, interim parking director, said the department had already begun doing what little it could to alleviate the problem.

Hultine also told attendees that the department would look into forwarding the complaints to KU’s athletics department.
