Schools: Sixth-grader suspended for carrying pellet gun

A Broken Arrow School sixth-grader Tuesday was suspended for bringing a pellet gun to school in a backpack.

Students are prohibited by district policy from bringing any kind of weapon or any object that can be used as a weapon onto school district property.

Larry Bakerink, the school’s principal, said the male student didn’t threaten anyone in the 250-student elementary school. Lawrence police were called to the building at 2704 La.

“This would be a good time to visit at home with your children about appropriate behavior at school,” Bakerink said.

A letter was sent home with students to share information about the incident with parents, Bakerink said.
