Federal, state offices to close for holiday

Some area government offices and services will be closed today in observance of Veterans Day.

Lawrence city and Douglas County government offices are among those that will be open. All city and county services, including trash collection, will be provided under normal schedules.

Also open will be city offices in Ottawa, Oskaloosa, DeSoto and Eudora. City offices will be closed in Tonganoxie, Baldwin and McLouth.

County offices in Franklin, Jefferson and Leavenworth will be closed.

Banks and federal government offices, along with the U.S. Postal Service, will be closed. There will be no mail delivery except for Express Mail. All state offices will be closed, including district courts in Douglas County and elsewhere.

Kansas University will be open, and classes will be conducted. Classes will be in session at Lawrence public schools. Haskell Indian Nations University will observe the holiday, and no classes are scheduled.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels and Douglas County Senior Services Senior Meals programs will go on regular schedules.

The Lawrence Public Library will be open. UPS will operate on normal schedules. Most liquor stores will be open.

The Journal-World and USA Today will be delivered as normal, and Journal-World business offices will be open.
