California: Distraught husband kills wife, sons, self

A man apparently distraught over the breakup of his marriage fatally shot his wife and three young sons early Saturday, then killed himself, police said. The couple’s two daughters escaped.

Two of the boys were 9-year-old twins and the other was 6. All three boys and their mother and father were shot in the head with a handgun, Yuba City Police Lt. Bill Ollar said.

“We believe basically it’s a murder-suicide,” Ollar said.

The woman and her daughters, age 10 and 2, had moved into the small house, rented by her sister’s family, a few months earlier, Ollar said.

There was no sign of a break-in or struggle, and police believe the father and three sons had spent the night.

“We believe they were in the process of getting a divorce and that he had recently arrived at the house from Yuma, Ariz., with the three boys,” Ollar said.

New York: Former WWE employee charged with larceny

The former general manager of the World Wrestling Entertainment complex in Times Square was arrested Friday and charged with stealing $437,000 from his former employer.

Kenton Jenkins, 39, was charged with second- and third-degree grand larceny, said Barbara Thompson, spokeswoman for the Manhattan district attorney. Jenkins faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Thompson said Jenkins, who made $195,000 a year as manager of the complex until he was fired in June, stole the money by writing WWE checks to a bogus company he had set up, CSG Construction.

The WWE complex, which includes a theater, restaurant, store and TV sound stage, is in the old Paramount Theater.

New York: Tree grove planted for plane crash victims

A bell tolled Saturday for each of the 265 people killed one year ago in the crash of American Airlines Flight 587, which plunged into a residential area just after taking off on a flight to the Dominican Republic.

Each of the victims’ names was read at a hilltop service in Astoria Park, where a memorial grove of trees was planted.

About 200 people attended the ceremony in the park under the Hell Gate Bridge over the East River. A companion grove was to be planted Tuesday in the Dominican town of Bani, where many people on the flight were traveling.

The Airbus A300-600 bound for Santo Domingo crashed just after leaving John F. Kennedy International Airport. The National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating the cause.
