London: Butler’s wife sounds off on gifts from Diana

Most of the items found in the home of former royal butler Paul Burrell and used by police to charge him with theft were guilt gifts from Princess Diana, Burrell’s wife was quoted as saying on Sunday.

Maria Burrell said Diana showered her with presents of clothes, accessories and shoes in an attempt to make up for her dependence on Paul Burrell ” a reliance that took the butler away from his family.

“She tried to make up for taking Paul’s time by being generous. … She gave us presents, and I gave her Paul,” Maria Burrell, 48, was quoted as saying in the Sunday Mirror.

Paul Burrell was acquitted last week of stealing more than 300 items from the princess and royal family.

Indonesia: More arrests made in Bali bombing

Hunting three fugitive brothers who are suspected terrorists, police Saturday raided an Islamic boarding school where they believe plotters who blew up two nightclubs on the island of Bali last month were based.

Five men connected with the Al-Islam school in the remote village of Tenggulun” including two co-founders, the director and two teachers ” are under investigation for their role in the car bombing that killed at least 191 people.

Two alleged members of the purported terror cell have been taken into custody, including a co-founder of the school known as Amrozi who authorities say has admitted playing a key role in the bombing. On Friday, police detained the school director, Zakaria.

Italy: Thousands protest possible Iraq strike

Hundreds of thousands of activists from across Europe marched peacefully Saturday through Florence in a rally against a possible U.S.-led war on Iraq.

“Stop Global War,” “Drop Bush, Not Bombs” and “Thank You, Florence” were among the sentiments displayed on posters and banners in various languages. Police estimated the crowd at 450,000.
