Halloween OK
To the editor:
On behalf of myself and all my Christian brothers and sisters I would like to offer an apology for the John Bonds of the world who criticize anyone for participating in the events of Halloween.
I do not know how Halloween originated … perhaps there is something there connected to the Wiccan religion? I do not know why we put up Christmas trees at Christmas; isn’t there something of pagan origin there?
Who knows? Who cares? I do know that I am secure enough in my faith, that I am not threatened by rituals and customs that surrond holidays.
My son and I enjoy carving pumpkins, baking bat and spider cookies and dressing up in costumes for a night of fun!
The way Mr, Bond described it, you’d think I was chanting naked in a ring of fire, sacrificing chickens and dancing with the devil himself!
Mr. Bond’s type of criticism and negativity reminds me of the zealots and pharisees in the Bible who persecuted Jesus and His followers for preaching love and kindness rather than shoving the “law” down everyone’s throat. No wonder so many are offended.
