Lawrence school board
Board trying to collect delinquent fees
Bottom Line
The board will receive an update on work of Transworld Systems, a Rohnert Park, Calif., collection agency hired nearly two years ago to collect on delinquent student-fee accounts.
Kathy Johnson, the district’s finance director, said the company had collected $14,478 since it was hired in January 2000. The district’s cost for that service has been $4,770.
That rate of return warrants continuation of the contract with Transworld, she said.
Background
Transworld Systems was sent 600 accounts tied to $54,460 owed the district. The company contacted people responsible for the debt through a series of mailings.
These were challenging delinquent accounts, given that the majority were more than 3 years old.
Johnson said the district could improve collections of delinquent fees by turning over to Transworld all accounts more than 120 days past due.
