Two teens hurt in accident on rain-slickened turnpike

Two Shawnee 16-year-olds in a sport-utility vehicle were injured Saturday afternoon when their vehicle overturned on Interstate 70 east of Lawrence and collided with a van, the Kansas Turnpike Patrol said.

Driver Monica Joshi and passenger Jodan Mirostaw were taken by Leavenworth County ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Both were treated at the hospital and released, a nursing supervisor said.

The accident occurred about 2 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near the Lawrence service area, a turnpike dispatcher said. Joshi’s Isuzu spun out of control on rain-slickened pavement and collided with a 1986 Plymouth van, the dispatcher said. Both vehicles left the highway and the Isuzu overturned, coming to rest upright, the dispatcher said.

No one in the van was injured. It was driven by Jared Wilson, 26, Redfield.
