Central tribute
To the editor:
Can it possibly be over? Nine consecutive years as a Central Junior High parent have passed so quickly. It is with tears in my eyes and heartfelt thanks that I write this meager letter of praise.
Central Junior High faculty and staff have done what I hope all faculties in the Lawrence school system would strive to do. For each of my three children, the staff at Central has accepted and embraced their uniqueness. From Maggie VI’s rainbow striped toe socks with her basketball uniform, to Patti’s Variety Show solo finale, and Cyrus’ blue hair and boarding, each teacher has found a way to work with my children’s individual weaknesses and to build upon their strengths. And in doing so, the staff has assisted my children in learning to accept themselves.
The lifelong lessons that my children have learned at Central are most meaningful and go way beyond the scope of academics. Each one of my children has benefited from the diverse population. By having teachers and staff that look to accept each individual’s uniqueness and to build upon their strengths, my children have expanded their abilities to accept and work with others.
Parents do not raise children alone. And I am proud and pleased to have had Central Junior High as a partner in my children’s education. Mere words are inadequate to express my thanks. My hat is off in tribute to the fine teachers and staff at Central.
Ann Beedles,
Lawrence
