KU graduate wins award to study library science

Kansas University has selected its annual Rubinstein/Mason Award to support graduate education in library studies.

Jeff McAdams of Wichita, who received bachelor’s degrees in English and history at commencement Sunday, will receive the $1,000 prize, which is funded by the KU Endowment Association.

McAdams, who has worked as a student assistant at KU libraries since 1999, plans to enter the master of library science program at Emporia State University this fall.

The Rubinstein/Mason Award honors Joseph Rubinstein, first head of KU libraries’ department of special collections and Alexandra Mason, retired director of Spencer Library.

KU students win awards in Slavic languages program

Three Kansas University students received special awards last week at the department of Slavic languages and literature scholarship reception.

Patrick Carrier, Bemidji, Minn., doctoral student in theater and film, received the Kuhlke Russian Theatre Award, worth $2,000.

Lyle McMillan, Jamestown sophomore in political science and Slavic languages and literatures, will study for a year in Russia through the National Security Education Program Award.

And John Bidwell, Lawrence senior in Slavic languages and literature, received a grant from the American Council of Teachers of Russian to study at the KU summer program in Zagreb and Dubrovnik, Croatia.
