Video: Fire engulfs apartment building

Fire engulfs an apartment building under construction just west of campus.

An apartment building under construction west of Kansas University was destroyed and two others were damaged by a fire that broke out early Saturday afternoon. No one was injured.

The buildings, part of the Chase Court complex near 21st Street and Stewart Avenue, are owned by First Management.

According to Doug Compton, owner of First Management, the building that was destroyed was still under construction, and all 24 of its units had been leased for occupancy in August. The other two buildings, which are occupied, were evacuated. They sustained minor fire damage.

The cause of the fire was still undetermined. Firefighters remained on the scene about 2:30 p.m.
