Selfish motives

To the editor:

While it’s difficult to discern the truth amid such political shenanigans, the budget impasse in Topeka appears to be the result of selfishness and a lack of leadership.

How easy to be a politician in the fat times when the state coffers are bulging and there are plenty of funds to go around! How different in lean times. If character is revealed in adversity, then what a bunch of scheming cowards our elected officials have turned out to be. Are they willing to sacrifice quality education in Kansas for their specious and petty desire to be re-elected? They’ve lost sight of the most important political precept: doing what is right and good for their constituency even when it hurts.

Like Washington, Topeka is increasingly staffed with professional politicos who place their own personal success above that of their constituency.
