Noteworthy items

To the editor:

Item of note: City spends hundreds of thousands of dollars for a bus system hardly anyone uses. Buses run, but few ride. Two or three empty buses at a time can be seen on main thoroughfares. Yes, the disabled need transportation. Buy taxis. Hire drivers and a dispatcher. Issue eligibility cards to those needing transportation. DO NOT run any of this past any KC consulting firm hired to do the thinking for our elected public officials.

Item of note: City spends thousands to build “islands” and “roundabouts” for “traffic calming.” In high traffic areas like Research Park Road and Legends Drive. Reality: road hazards that are nearly invisible in the dark and oncoming headlights. And to negotiate these “traffic-calming devices,” it is necessary to swerve into the bicycle lanes painted on the side of the road. The bicycle and back crowd has allowed this??

Item of note: City school board furloughs 65 school teachers, lack of funds from irresponsible Republican Legislature. In a community that is home to a major educational institution.

Am I the only one who smells the stench of irresponsibility, mismanagement, out-of-town consultants hired to think for our elected officials, and out-and-out stupidity?
