Tax hike OK

To the editor:

I have read about and watched our legislators this session wrangle with the school finance bill. I feel that nothing has been done to help our schools to keep up with what they do best educate our children.

Yes, this is an election year. Most of our representatives would love to say in their campaign speeches “I didn’t raise your taxes.” This is one time that I think they should be proud to say they did so.

I would not object to the raising of my taxes to support education. Polls indicate up to 85 percent of Kansans agree. We must continue to provide the means for our children to enter this busy world and ensure their and our futures. Increasing taxes moderately now will be much better than huge increases next year.

Do not shortchange our children at the expense of a few votes. Provide them the means to achieve their goals through well-supported public education.
