Matter of trust?

To the editor:

I read in the March 20 issue of LJW, the possibility of drug testing of all students could soon be a reality. Before that happens, the television commercials telling our kids that we trust them enough to simply ask if they are taking drugs, should be taken off the air and removed from all media sources. These two ideas are sending mixed messages to our kids. On the one hand, we trust you enough to simply ask if you are doing drugs, but on the other, we are going to randomly drug-test you to make SURE you are telling us the truth.

What a sad commentary on the relationship between adult and child in America. Unfortunately, it is this type of thinking that is slowly but surely entrenching its way between citizen and government under the guise of trust.
