Siren complaint

To the editor:

I have to write this concerning our tornado sirens that were removed from our town. They (civil defense) say they were outdated. If they were still working, they should have been left instead of paying out money for new ones. The new ones are placed to where very few people hear them. I was told that they weren’t meant for people to hear them in their house. Now who is going to be stupid enough to stand outside during a storm to hear them?

Also, they say most tornadoes occur between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Where have they (civil defense) been during stormy weather, which mostly occurs after sundown?

We feel our ones that were working should have been left, so they could be heard by more people, rather than try to hear the new ones.

They say to talk to our commissioner. We all know that is useless.

Anyway, the new ones aren’t placed to where most people hear them. We feel we need better tornado alerts.
