LHS girls to play in sub-state final

Lawrence High, coming off its first postseason victory in six years, will play Olathe East at 5:30 tonight in the Class 6A sub-state girls basketball final at Olathe North.

The Lions (9-12) beat top-seeded Leavenworth, 56-52, on Thursday to reach the final. LHS junior Leigh DeBiasse scored a season-high 21 points and junior Shari Lassiter helped shut down Leavenworth’s top scorer, Tiffany Brooks, in the second half.

Olathe East (13-8) advanced with a 69-51 victory over Olathe North. Britni Cone, Tiffany Vincent and Brittany Broyles scored 15 points apiece to lead O-East.

O-East beat Lawrence twice during the regular season 67-49 and 57-47.

The LHS-Olathe East winner advances to next week’s 6A state tournament in Emporia. LHS hasn’t qualified for state since 1993.
