Five dead in Kansas City, Kan., shootings

? Five people died in shootings early Monday, including three people who were apparently killed together.

Police responding to reports of shots being fired about 4 a.m. Monday found a man shot to death inside a home and a woman’s body in the back yard. The body of another woman was in the front yard of a house across the street.

A man who had been shot and wounded managed to get away from the area and he was being treated at a hospital for what police believed were non-life-threatening injuries.

“He was shot here and was able to get away and call for help,” said Pam Bennett, a police department spokeswoman.

The identities of the victims were not being released Monday, Bennett said. She said police obtained a warrant to search the home was found and the surrounding area.

“The crime scene involved is a large area,” she said.

Meanwhile, police were also investigating two other morning shootings at different locations in the city. One woman was found shot to death lying in the street. Another 26-year-old woman was found shot to death in another area of the city, Bennett said.

She said the deaths were still under investigation to determine if they were related.
