Too gaudy?
To the editor:
Several years ago, a carpet retailer who had painted a red, white and blue sign on his building in the 700 block of New Hampshire was chided by city officials that the sign was “too gaudy.” After weeks of harassment, Big Bob moved his carpet warehouse out of Lawrence.
Now I see that the Lawrence Bus Company is painting its buses red, white and blue. How long will it be before that business is also driven out of town because the buses are “too gaudy,” I wonder?
