Carillon concert announced
Sharon L. Hettinger, carillonneur and director of music and worship arts at First United Methodist Church in Topeka, will present a carillon recital at 8 p.m. today at Kansas University’s Campanile.
Municipal band to present ‘Fantasy’ performance
The Lawrence City Band will perform “Fantasy” at 8 p.m. today in South Park, 11th and Massachusetts streets. The band is conducted by Robert Foster.
The program includes “Fanfare for a New Millennium” by Robert Foster Jr.; “Dunharrow Overture” by Reber Clark; “Lord of the Rings” by Johan de Meji and featuring narrator Hank Booth; “The Harmonica Wizard” by John Philip Sousa; “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by Paul Dukas; “The Belle of the Ball” by Leroy Anderson; themes from “Superman” by John Williams; and “The Trombone King” by Karl L. King.
Cottonwood Inc. appeals to food lovers for funds
“Salute! a Festival of Wine and Food” in its fourth year raised more than $44,000 for Cottonwood Inc. Saturday.
Tracie Youell, community coordinator, said about 500 people attended the event, which was at the Lawrence Holidome. Tickets to the event were $50. All the proceeds go to the foundation to help support people with disabilities in their daily living, Youell said.
Eight restaurant sponsors brought 250 food products for attendees to test.
Youell said 80 items were sold in a silent auction, and more than 30 items were sold in the live auction. Chefs from Teller’s and Hereford House also gave a demonstration on cooking with wine. The Chuck Berg Trio provided live jazz music.
