Grateful visitor

To the editor:

This is a big thank you to some wonderful people in Lawrence. On June 30, while traveling through your city I broke my ankle in a parking lot. There was a volunteer fireman and a nurse who happened to be in the lot, and they assisted me and my husband while we waited on the ambulance. Unfortunately, we did not write down their names. The paramedics, Joe Schaumburg, Rod Sumonja and the rest who arrived in the ambulance, and the medical staff of your fine hospital were wonderful to both of us and did their jobs efficiently and with great compassion.

All of the aides, techs, and nurses and doctors at the hospital were exceptional. Doris Douglas, who works for the hospital in the office, truly touched my heart with her kindness and thoughtfulness in bringing flowers to my room. She said she realized that because we were passing through and did not know anyone in Lawrence, that there would be no one there to do the kind of things like bringing flowers that friends usually do at that kind of event. Doris, that was truly a blessing. Words cannot express our sincere gratefulness and the blessing that all of you were to us.
