Pledge solution

To the editor:

The controversy about the Pledge of Allegiance is easily solved if everyone would just take a deep breathe and get off their high horse.

All Congress has to do is mandate that when one gets to the line “under god,” everyone states their personal belief. Monotheists say “under god” or “under goddess.” Polytheists say “under gods.” Atheist take a deep breath. It might sound a little chaotic for a second, but no more so than when my family sings “Happy Birthday, dear mom, grandma, Dorothy” all at the same time.

If anyone is prevented from saying or not saying what they want at that point, their civil rights are being violated, and then the courts should get involved. This simple, logical change would solve the controversy which has already wasted too much time and energy that could be better spent saving abused children or teaching better ethics to present and future business leaders.

Do we have any representatives out there with guts enough to propose this change?
