To the editor:
In regard to the Journal-World's Associated Press Jan. 20 article on George Tiller's abortion clinic, it was reported that Tiller told his supporters that he had received a message from Jesus that his abortion clinic should stay open.
Tiller is sadly mistaken, and his remark flies in the face of everything that Jesus stands for. Clearly, according to Scripture, Jesus is an advocate of the child in the womb, for in Psalm 127:3 it is stated, "Behold, children are a gift of the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward." And in Psalm 139:13 it states, "For you formed my inward parts; you covered me in my mother's womb." In Jeremiah 1:5, it says "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born, I sanctified you."
And Isaiah 49:15 states, "Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you." Matthew 18:14 says, "Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish." These are just a few of the Scriptures that profess Jesus' love for the human life in the womb and there are so many, many more, too many to list here.
Sadly, by offering and performing abortions, Tiller is pitting women against their own offspring and destroying a life that Jesus says was created to be a blessing.
