Students named Truman finalists

Two Kansas University seniors are finalists for prestigious Truman scholarships.

Rebekah Moses, Great Bend, and Derek Teeter, Oakley, were among the 200 finalists. Winners of the 75 to 80 scholarships, which provide up to $30,000 for three years of graduate study, will be announced in late March or early April.

Moses, a political science major, would use her scholarship to combat discrimination against Hispanic immigrants through the arts. She is planning a career in immigration law.

Teeter, a political science and international studies major, wants to pursue a master’s degree in public policy and a degree in law. His Truman proposal involves studying the minimum age for execution in all 50 states.

Since 1981, 15 KU students have become Truman scholars.
