Coalition forces launch weekend airstrikes in Afghanistan

? Land- and sea-based planes launched airstrikes against enemy forces in eastern Afghanistan over the weekend, U.S. Central Command said Sunday.

Navy Cmdr. Dave Culler said the strikes were launched after coalition forces were attacked when trying to pass a roadblock at 2:30 a.m. EST Saturday. One friendly Afghan was killed and three were wounded in the attack, he said.

Culler declined to be specific about the location and said the action is ongoing.

He said U.S. strike planes launched precision guided weapons at the target on Saturday and returned for a second strike at 2 a.m. EST Sunday.
