County Commission Briefs

Lone Star Lake business wins county approval

Douglas County commissioners Wednesday approved an April 1-Oct. 15 camping season at Lone Star Lake, a month longer than had been allowed.

Commissioners also approved changes that will allow fishing in the east arm of the lake between Sept. 16 and April 30. The area will remain posted for swimming only May 1 through Sept. 15.

The commission also gave approval for Lawrence residents Bonnie and Harold Keylon to operate the lake’s concession stand. They’ll pay the county $1,000.

Commissioners hear permit requests

Commissioners Wednesday dealt with a host of conditional-use permits.

The commission gave owners of Enright Gardens, 2351 N. 400 Road, the OK to continue operating their greenhouse business on the site.

Commissioners also approved Morning Star Church’s request to build a 12,960-square-foot church at the northeast corner of North 1771 Road and East 1000 Road.

However, they denied a request by Donald Grinnell to establish a greenhouse operation at 1211 E. 2200 Road.
