Funding given for hospital to buy monitor in mother-baby unit
The Douglas County Community Foundation has selected Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Assn. to receive a grant of $13,365 to fund a new neonatal physiologic monitor for the hospital.
Workers in the hospital’s mother-baby unit estimate the monitor will be used by 30 percent to 40 percent of the 1,100 babies delivered at LMH each year for early detection of medical problems or abnormalities.
The monitor performs four functions that provide necessary information for the medical staff to care for the infants: blood pressure; EKG; respiratory and blood oxygen monitoring.
The Douglas County Community Foundation was organized in 2000 to promote, receive and manage gifts made to assist the people of Douglas County.
The foundation constitutes a collection of separate endowed funds established by individuals, families, charitable organizations and corporations.
The funds are pooled and invested by the foundation’s board of directors, which represent the communities of Douglas County; the income is distributed through competitive grants to nonprofit organizations.
“We are honored to be part of the community served by the Douglas County Community Foundation’s resources. We are especially appreciative of this gift, which will serve the youngest members in our community in the mother-baby unit at the hospital,” said Nancy Longhurst, president of the LMH Endowment Assn.
