Store robbed at knifepoint Monday

Lawrence police are looking for a man who held up a clerk at a local convenience store at knifepoint Monday night.

The 42-year-old male clerk was alone inside Jayhawk Food Mart, 701 W. Ninth St., around 11 p.m. when the suspect came in the store and tried to walk behind the counter.

Police said the clerk pushed the man back, but then the suspect pulled out a knife and ordered the clerk to open the cash register.

The robber grabbed all the money and ran. According to the police report, he got away with about $500.

Police said the thief was an American Indian male, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds. The man was last seen getting into an older model pickup truck with a camper shell.

More arrests made in apartment burglaries

Lawrence police arrested a suspect in a string of burglaries for a second time. Police originally arrested the 31-year-old Lawrence man Sunday after an officer spotted him leaving the scene of a burglary at the Tanglewood Apartments, 951 Ark.

Police executed a second search warrant Monday at the man’s home in the 900 block of Lexington Way, recovering what they believe to be even more stolen items. Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Pattrick says the recovered property links the suspect to three additional break-ins at the Regents Court and Trailridge apartment complexes.

Police say they believe the man was wedging small pieces of paper in apartment doors to target apartments where residents were not coming or going. Officers found papers stuck in the doors of a number of apartments at Aberdeen Apartments & Townhomes, 2300 Wakarusa Drive.

The suspect was released from jail a second time after posting $9,000 bond.

Police also arrested a woman who lives at the same address as the suspect. The 23-year-old was booked into jail on six counts of felony theft. Pattrick said she was found to be in possession of stolen property. The man and woman are due in court to face charges Jan. 3.
