Extra caution
To the editor:
A little reminder and a request for those people traveling by car, truck, minivan, SUV, or whatever other mechanized means of land transportation over the upcoming busy holiday season: Please, for the love of humanity, do drive patiently, attentively, and carefully to your destinations. In the last few years, typically around 40,000 Americans per year have perished as a result of motor vehicle accidents on our nation’s roadways.
This is a statistical fact. This is roughly equivalent, in terms of the cost of human lives, to one World Trade Center disaster every month for the entire year. Think about that. How many more years can go by before someone you know is affected by this tragedy? Please try to be considerate of other drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians. Feel free to slow down a little bit and leave a little space between yourself and the next person. The small price in time to you is certainly not worth more than someone’s life, maybe even your own.
Matt Ramspott,
Lawrence
