Police recover items from theft at church

Lawrence Police said an investigation into thefts of Christmas presents from Corpus Christi Catholic Church have led to the arrest of one suspect.

A 39-year-old Lawrence man, who was arrested Monday, was still in the Douglas County Jail on Tuesday on suspicion of burglary and theft. He was being held on $3,000 bond, but charges were pending.

Police were called Sunday night by a representative of the church at 6001 W. 15th St., Lt. Steve Zarnowiec said. Police were told Christmas gifts had been taken from the church.

A patrol officer identified a suspect leading to Monday night’s arrest, Zarnowiec said. A search warrant was also obtained and certain property items were recovered, he said.
