To the editor:

I am quite saddened and outraged at the current budgets cuts that Kansas is facing. On the cover of Thursday’s paper, you featured a photo of Jack Tuttle, who suffers from muscular dystrophy and may lose funding. What kind of low have we stooped to in this state?

Someone should remind the governor, who will soon be jetting off to his high-paying new job, about that business of “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” Sir, is this what you meant when you said “high and tight” four years ago? Is this the face you saw in your mind when you deferred money to put a statue on the Capitol dome?

As Kansans, we are raised to respect and care for our family, our friends and our neighbors. And then we go and elect people who can slash a budget and destroy a life with a mark of the pen. Not this time. I will be sending a copy of that picture to Gov. Bill Graves so he can see who it is he is hurting, not the dollar sign on a piece of paper. And I encourage other readers to do the same.

It’s said that you can tell a lot about a person by their actions. That photo speaks a thousand words about Graves and the state as a whole. It tells a lot about who we are, as well, letting the powers that be do this without even a nod from the public. I trust that during this time of good will, once his budget cuts go and ruin literally thousands of lives across Kansas, Graves’ Christmas will be quite merry!
