Musical tribute

To the editor:

Thank you for running the photograph of Karen Stephenson and Nancy Gibbens singing at the Habitat concert, “Swingtime and Coffee” on Nov. 17 and also for the photo of the two members of the audience, beaming their enjoyment!

With both singers and instrumentalists donating their talents and First United Methodist providing the venue without cost, the event raised about $900. It will give a considerable lift to the building of another low-cost home for a family that otherwise could not afford one.

Since the photos appeared in the Journal-World, many have said to me, “We would have come, if we’d only known about it!” This is to tell lovers of the music of the ’40s and ’50s that Clyde Bysom’s Jazzhaus band and my singers, known as Attune, will present a similar concert in April of next year! To receive a reminder of the concert big band fans may telephone Habitat at 832-0777 and they’ll be put on the Habitat mailing list.

More than 40 homes have been built by this wonderful group of volunteers. Lawrence is a better city because of the Douglas County chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

Don Mueller,

Baldwin
