Poor information

To the editor:

I have lost count, but I would hope David Holroyd would have done more homework before writing again about the public schools he loves to hate. It is apparent that he knows nothing about education in thinking the Alternative High School is a waste of money.

Because some students are mentally, emotionally or physically different, does not deny them the right to an education. LAHS is the only place where kids from difficult backgrounds can continue education. Sometimes it’s from their poor choices; sometimes it’s because of family or external issues. However, for Mr. Holroyd to oversimplify and continue to make arrogant assertions on what classes should or should not be offered while neglecting to even find out what classes exist is imprudent to say the least.

Perhaps he overlooked the fact that junior high students already must take math courses. It is nothing new, and is not an issue. Saying that “If a student has time for flag corps class, then the student has time to drop it and take the remedial classes needed” displays his ignorance. It should be noted that to perform in marching band, one must maintain a minimum GPA, meaning, if you’re failing your classes, you can’t take “flag corps” in the first place.

It would also behoove him to speak to the guidance counselors, the staff who assigns classes. Had he done so, he might find what classes are really offered in high school. Thanks, but no thanks, for the free consultation.
