Tuition peers

To the editor:

In a recent letter to the editor about Kansas University tuition, the KU provost/executive vice chancellor gave some figures trying to show how nonresident KU students are paying more than their share to attend Kansas University. Since the provost likes to use numbers, here are some he might be interested in:

Kansas University resident yearly tuition: $3,484 (provost’s number)

University of Colorado resident yearly tuition: $3,569

Kansas University nonresident yearly tuition: $10,686 (provost’s number)

University of Colorado nonresident yearly tuition: $18,920.

Colorado is ranked 26th in the nation among public universities. KU officials often state that their goal is to be in the top 25 of America’s public universities in the next few years.

They state the University of Colorado to be a “peer university.” I guess they only mean “peer” when they want their salaries to be raised, not when it comes to out-of-state tuition.
