Mosquito threat

To the editor:

Over the past week, I have read in the Journal-World that Kansas has 50 species of mosquitoes and that the wetlands do breed mosquitoes. I am wondering if we should forgo the wetlands? Mosquitoes do transmit many diseases, that we know. If there is any chance that humans or animals may contract a disease via a bite, I would be in favor of draining the wetlands rather than have any possibility of the West Nile virus or any others, and over a mass spraying system. Prevention is the best method of control.
