State troopers called in to watch for drunk drivers

Douglas County will be swarming with law enforcement officers specifically watching for drunk drivers Friday night.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is sending eight troopers to join Douglas County Sheriff’s officers in “saturation” patrols of various parts of the county.

The sheriff’s office had already announced it is assigning five extra deputies to watch for drunken drivers from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday.

At 9 p.m., however, five Highway Patrol troopers will begin their patrols. The remaining three troopers will start at 12 a.m. Saturday.
