River concern

To the editor:

I’m kind of curious about how many of our tax dollars were wasted, paying city workers to dump contaminated soil, less than a hundred yards away from the Kaw River, and then paying overtime to clean up the mess.

Maybe somebody figured, “Hey, what the heck, the Kaw is already contaminated, so why not?” Do they think it doesn’t matter if there are any fish left in the Kaw? I mean, hey, the fish are already contaminated. We aren’t supposed to eat them. Just because we aren’t supposed to eat the fish, doesn’t mean we don’t still fish for them. There are those of us who believe in “catch and release”!

Personally, I think there ought to be charges filed, and jobs terminated! Maybe state laws don’t apply to city and/or state officials.

I have to wonder if our city manager really deserves the raise that he recently received. I would think that he would have an idea about what kind of “projects” our city workers were involved in, BEFORE any of these projects ever take place.

How did the city even find the time, or money involved in this foolishness, when they don’t have the time or money to do something about 31st Street, east of Iowa Street?
