Project praised

To the editor:

Salutations to Jeff Almon for organizing students to salvage usable items from the piles left along curbs during the last week of July. The city’s Recycling and Resource Conservation Advisory Board and city staff have explored ways to do this with existing resources, but it just isn’t possible given the one-time occurrence of the annual exodus.

What a great idea to turn a problem into an opportunity in an organized fashion. It is especially gratifying to redistribute these items to those who need them, while reducing the amount of trash having to be collected and disposed of in the landfill.
