The following is the text of a letter concerning congressional redistricting from State Sen. Sandy Praeger, R-Lawrence, to Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley, D-Topeka.

Dear Anthony:

I received your letter of April 22 regarding congressional redistricting and certainly understand your role as a Democrat and Minority Leader of the Senate.

While we were not successful in passing a map that kept Lawrence in the 3rd District, we still have the opportunity in the conference committee process. After two separate votes to keep Lawrence in the 3rd District failed (which I voted for), I supported a map to move the process forward.

My role as Vice President of the Senate is to help reach consensus on a map that passes with a healthy majority of the Senators’ votes and to continue to work to keep the city of Lawrence in one district.
