Revitalized river

To the editor:

I have to agree with RFK, Jr. The Kansas River is a mess, visually and ecologically. The few pleasant sights along the banks in Lawrence include the area near the bridge which sports the newer Stan Herd artwork, and the Marriott Hotel (formerly an outlet mall.)

One only has to drive southwest a ways to see what we COULD have with a little effort and ingenuity. Wichita has revitalized its riverfront with lovely museums, parks, walking trails and sculpture. Fountains abound at a nearby hotel, and one can see miniature golf played along the banks in the warmer months. The river is also open to jet-ski use.

I love living in Lawrence but hope this city and others along the Kansas River take a hint from our neighbor to the south.
