Music to accompany classic silent films
Overland Park Rick Benjamin and his Paragon Ragtime Orchestra will play original scores to accompany three classic silent short films at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Carlsen Center at Johnson County Community Center, 12345 College Blvd.
The films are Charlie Chaplin’s “Immigrant,” Buster Keaton’s “Cops” and Harold Lloyd’s “Never Weaken.” The orchestra will play period instruments.

West African author to lead workshop
West African author and teacher Sobonfu Some will present a two-day workshop Saturday and April 28 at The Light Center, a holistic healing center near Baldwin.
Sobonfu’s name means “keeper of rituals” and her presentations focus on the application of healing rituals. She is the author of two books, “The Spirit of Intimacy” and “Welcoming Spirit Home.”

Psychologist to talk about angels, healing
Kansas City, Mo. Psychologist Doreen Virtue will present “Healing with Your Angels” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Unity Temple on the Plaza, 707 W. 47th St.
Virtue has written 22 books and is the founder of the Angel Therapy Network.
Virtue came to her own “angelic awakening” in 1995, when she was saved from death by what she believes is miraculous intervention. As a practicing psychologist and administrator of psychiatric hospitals and outpatient clinics, she decided to re-examine her Western medical beliefs and spiritual philosophies.

Lawrence resident’s quilt in exhibit
A quilt made by a Lawrence artist is among the 432 entries selected from throughout the world to compete in the American Quilter’s Society’s 18th Annual Quilt Show and Contest. The quilt, made by Roseanne Smith, is titled “Feathered Star.”
More than 740 quilts were entered in the contest. Fifty-two quilts will receive awards and all of the 432 quilts picked by the juror will be displayed Wednesday through Saturday in the Paducah-McCracken County Exposition Center in Paducah, Ky.
Washburn to present Cabaret 2000
Topeka Cabaret 2000 will feature selections from “Guys and Dolls,” “Secret Garden” and “Fiddler on the Roof” performed by Washburn University students.
The show is at 7:30 p.m. today in the Bradbury Thompson Center at Washburn University, 17th and Jewell streets.
The program also includes the Payless ShoeSource Combo and Out of Class, a men’s barbershop group.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets are available at the door.
