Rent alternative?

To the editor:

The fact that anyone could think that being without a home can be a convenience (James Dunn April 11) defies belief. Obviously, he has always had a roof over his head and security for treasured belongings. His claim that prospective renters chose to stay at the shelter rather than pay rent, speaks volumes in regards to the possible condition of said property and the usual overpriced rent being charged in the area. On the other hand, what a wonderful critique of the shelter!

The idea that the Salvation Army shelter is in competition with local landlords is ludicrous. It is bad enough that in America, there are individuals and families who are without a place that they can call their own without those who would believe they are there by choice.
