To the editor:

Thank you for informing the public that “I LOVE KANSAS,” is on sale at Borders. But I do not understand why the headline writer missed the truth and called me a prohibitionist. I have never worked for prohibition.

When my bishop assigned me to this special ministry working for less suffering caused by our number one drug problem, I quickly learned that beer and liquor sellers believe ridicule and scorn is their only way to fight truth, so in the Statehouse and in their printed material nationwide they called me a prohibitionist.

Alcohol is a recreational drug. Marijuana is a recreational drug. We live today under prohibition of one and years ago lived under prohibition of the other. Marijuana smoker are not as deadly as alcohol drinkers. During alcohol prohibition, per capita consumption was the lowest in our nation’s history.

Many thousands are thankful for our great coach, Roy Williams, who requested our most abused drug not be part of the campus celebration for a wonderful Jayhawk season!!
