Teen activities

To the editor:

I was reading the article about the new Kansas University recreation center being built for KU students. I realize that Lawrence is a “college town,” but there is nothing for high school students to do. First the skating rink gets taken away, then the mall; what next, the movie theater?

Parents and authorities wonder why a lot of the Lawrence teens drink and get into trouble. Well, if we weren’t so dang bored, we might not do the things we do. We have to make ourselves have fun, and that’s the only way we know how. I mean, think about it, what is there to do in Lawrence for someone under the age of 18? Absolutely nothing.

After a while you get sick of going to the movies, because that’s about all we have left, and we want to do something different. The city should do something for us. We’re important, too. Aren’t we?
